Station 6

Time series of temperature (top) and salinity (bottom). The water is generally warmer and fresher at the surface, and there are also strong seasonal trends (warmer & fresher in summer, colder & saltier toward end of winter).

The current number of profiles at Station 6 allow us to make detailed plots showing the evolution of temperature and salinity over time. The late summer / early fall months show that the upper waters are warm and relatively fresh (for ocean water), but the onset of winter causes the waters to cool and become saltier. Changes at great depth are more modest. The vertical dashed lines show the timing of measurements taken by the ATA.
